Master of Science in Human Movement Science

The Master of Science in Human Movement Science (MSHMS) is a post-graduate degree program for the advanced professional preparation of Human Movement Science specialists. This 39-unit discipline-based and research-oriented curriculum aims to equip its graduates with skills of critical inquiry and research for the advancement of knowledge and practice in Human Movement Science. Students may choose from one of the three areas of specialization: Exercise Science, Leisure Studies, or Physical Education. Students are required to finish the program in 3-5 years with a general weighted average (GWA) of 2.000 or better. Graduates of this program take leadership roles in the community, educational institutions, health and wellness industry, and professional sports, or pursue higher studies in the field. 

Admission Requirements

The program is open to individuals with undergraduate degrees related to the field of Human Movement Sciences (i.e., Physical Education, Sports and Exercise Science, and Allied Medical Professions). The selection criteria include the general weighted average obtained in the undergraduate degree program, passing a written examination and panel interview, the quality of any previous published/written work, motivation, and proficiency in either English or Filipino.

Areas of Specialization

Exercise Science

Students under this area of specialization will gain advanced knowledge in Exercise Science as a broad field of study, taking courses in applied exercise physiology, analysis of human movement, motor control, and sport psychology. Students may then specialize in any of these sub-areas by taking 9-units of related HMS elective courses.

Leisure Studies

This area of specialization focuses on leisure education, management of leisure, developing programs for special groups, and understanding contemporary problems in leisure. It is a broad field of study and student may expand their knowledge, skills, and competencies by taking 9-units of leisure-related HMS elective courses (e.g., Active Ageing, Leisure and the Sustainable Development Goals), or HMS courses under the Exercise Science or Physical Education specialization.

Physical Education

This area of specialization provides students with advanced knowledge and competencies in motor control, administration of school-based programs, current trends and psycho-social issues in Physical Education. 

Schedule of Classes

Each 3-unit HMS course is equivalent to 3 class hours per week per semester (16 weeks).

All HMS classes are scheduled on weeknights (M-F) from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM and on Saturdays (8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, or 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM).

Cost

Each unit costs PHP 500.00. Hence, a 3-unit course will cost PHP 1,500.00 per semester. 

Miscellaneous fees cost around PHP 2,500.00.

Students may enrol in 3 to 9 units per semester; 12, if they are studying ful-time. This means that a student may pay a tuition fee ranging from PHP 4,000.00++ to PHP 8,500.00++ per semester.
